Beckers launches waterborne basecoat for the automotive exterior plastics market

Beckers Group introduces with Beckqua®Color a next-generation waterborne basecoat for bumpers, mirror caps and door handles. By using an exclusive resins combination as well as matching the requirements on cost, solids, and leveling, Beckers’ new coating offers benefits that include a very high solid content, enhanced appearance through a smoother film surface and a very good hiding power.

In the case of a white coating, this substantial improvement in solid content means that a coating line with a normal annual paint consumption of 60 tons can reduce this amount to 45 tons. This translates into 750 fewer pails of paint that need to be transported and kept in a climate-controlled warehouse. The environmental gains are enormous.

Beckqua®Color has been developed from the scratch, thoroughly tested by external institutes as well as in-house and is now available on the market. The product is currently in line trials at several suppliers of bumpers for large automotive OEM’s in Europe and already in serial production at suppliers of mirror caps.

“From the start, we aimed for more than just bringing a ‘me-too’ product to the market. I am very happy that we have succeeded to develop a technology with very distinctive competitive advantages. We believe the multiple benefits of Beckqua®Color speak for themselves and expect to start deliveries before the end of 2018,” says Ignacio Perera, Business Line Manager APE, Beckers Germany.
