Primers, topcoats and more

Coatings are our core business. Depending on the end use and specifications, one can choose from among the following categories of products.

Primers

Primers are pigmented coatings that are applied to new or old surfaces, prior to the application of undercoats or topcoats.
The main function of primers is to achieve adequate adhesion to the substrate and to provide intercoat adhesion for subsequent coats. They are specifically formulated for particular substrates such as aluminium, steel, Polypropylene (PP), Acrylonitrile Butadiène Styrène (ABS), etc…
For best results in a production environment, priming before painting is absolutely necessary. Primers serve as the foundation for the chosen coating system, and in the case of metals deliver corrosion protection for the asset. They help the final coating adhere to the surface, increase paint durability and can hide or fill in some surface defects.

Intermediate coat (or Filler)

With its high filling and excellent levelling properties, the intermediate coat or filler prepares the primed substrate for the further application of a basecoat or a topcoat.
It not only contributes to the final appearance, but also improves the mechanical properties of the paint system as a whole, especially its resistance to chipping. It also provides an additional barrier against moisture and oxygen thereby further inhibiting corrosion.

Basecoats

Basecoats are pigmented paints that are applied over primed surfaces or intermediate coatings prior the clear coat.
Basecoats contain the visual properties of color and effects. They are designed to enhance the visual appearance of the clear coat.

Topcoats & Clear coats

Topcoats are the final coats for use over primers or fillers. They are formulated to provide good adherence to the undercoat, the desired appearance (colour, gloss, structure) to the painted unit, additional protection from the weather and aid in other performance requirements.

Usually sprayed on top of a colored basecoat, a clear coat is a transparent glossy or matt coating that forms the final interface with the environment. For this reason, the clear coat must be durable enough to resist abrasion and chemically stable enough to withstand the combination of UV light as well as chemical aggression.

Monolayers

A monolayer system performs two functions: those of primer and topcoat.

Backing coats

A backing coat is a thin, functional coating applied to the back or unexposed side of coil coated metal.
Backing coat is applied for appearance, durability, corrosion resistance, lubrication during roll-forming operations, insulation, bonding, and protection of the top coat.

Putty

Putty is applied to fill deep dents and to obtain a smooth finish wherever necessary.
It improves the flatness of surfaces, thus enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the painted unit.
